| Hailed as the rising stars of the North & Central American and Caribbean zone, the Costa Rican team have come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years, with an admirable performance in the 2002 World Cup. Having faced some of the top teams in the world in their group, including Turkey and eventual winners Brazil, Costa Rica managed to hold their own and show the world that they mean business as one of the up and coming teams out there. It has been a rocky road to the 2006 World Cup for the Costa Ricans with the appointment of numerous coaches over the past couple of years. All that is set to change with the return of Alexander Guimaraes and the forceful ambition and determination consistently on display by the players, this could well put them further up the world football rankings and on the road to success.
