| Ecuador has always had the reputation as the weakest team in CONMEBOL, although this is changing with the team having qualified for their first World Cup in 2002 and now again in 2006. This has now given them the reputation as the most improved team in their qualifying zone and spurred their quest for glory with their FIFA ranking having gone from 71st to well into the 30's over the past few years. With coach Luis Suarez in charge of the team they are set to continue the trend as one of the up and coming teams and demand the respect they deserve.
